Style and Editing Guide

AP Style

All articles written in this course must adhere to Associated Press (AP) Style.  A concise guide to the basics of AP style can be found in Appendix C, beginning on page 327 in our textbook, but there are many places on the Web where you can find guides to AP style, the most user-friendly being the On-Line Writing Lab at Purdue University.

Writing Mechanics and Grammar

Appendices A and B in the textbook are handy guides to common mechanical and grammatical issues.  The On-Line Writing Lab is also an excellent resource.

Copy Editing and Fact-Checking

The  Journalist Toolbox’s Copy Editing page has several new resources. The American Copy Editors Society has assembled a collection of 49 online quizzes about everything from AP Style and usage to Iraq and the Middle East.
